Nike Soccer TOMA @ The Grove

Nike Soccer | The Grove

Every Day Was a Match Day

Our Opportunity

The World Cup came to Los Angeles, but the energy of the game was never going to fit inside one stadium.

LA is a city made up of soccer communities from around the world, each with its own clubs, rituals, neighborhoods and relationship to the game. And while only a fraction of fans would ever make it through the gates in Inglewood, millions more would experience the tournament everywhere else.

So Nike set out to create a place where LA could live the World Cup every day.

For 23 straight days, our opportunity was to transform The Grove into an always-on home for soccer, combining live play, global match viewing, Nike product, customization and the communities already shaping the game across Los Angeles.

Not just on the days everyone had circled.

Every day. Match or no match.

Our Solution

We built a full soccer pitch in the center of The Grove and turned the neighboring AMC into the stands.

Outside, you played.

Inside, you watched.

With the Nike Store anchoring The Grove, the experience extended the brand beyond the walls of retail and into the center of the property. The pitch, programming and product moments created a natural flow between Nike’s permanent store and its temporary World Cup world, connecting play, culture and commerce in one destination.

Across three weeks, the experience operated at two speeds: major match days that took over the entire footprint, and an always-on layer of programming designed to make even the quietest day feel worth showing up for. Customization stayed open, screens stayed live, DJs and MCs kept the pitch moving, and there was always another reason to come back.

The programming was built around three pillars: pinnacle Nike product, football culture and the LA soccer community.

And rather than asking one creative concept to carry three weeks, the space evolved constantly.

Six different themes handed the experience to different corners of LA soccer culture, including TOMA, X2, Paisa Boys, Persona The Shop, LA partners and the USMNT. Product, graphics, programming and energy shifted with each chapter, making week three feel fundamentally different from week one.

TOMA brought 1v1 street soccer directly onto one of LA’s busiest public stages, giving young players who normally compete far outside the spotlight the chance to play in front of crowds gathered at The Grove. Across the run, 11 TOMA KO matches took place on the pitch, extending the movement Nike had built around youth creativity and self-expression in the game.

Match days began outside before moving into AMC theaters, where fans watched World Cup games together on the big screen, turning a movie theater into an unlikely but electric football stand.

Product became programming too.

A transparent customization studio turned the process itself into theater as guests personalized Air Force 1s in full view of the crowds moving through The Grove. Across the activation, 600 pairs were customized onsite.

Quick-strike product, TOMA capsules and LA collaborations created another reason to return, with new drops appearing throughout the run rather than everything launching at once.

Even the simplest moments became destinations. Inside the AMC lobby, guests lined up for physical Polaroid portraits, ultimately creating more than 12,000 tangible souvenirs in a city where everyone already carries a camera.

The Grove wasn’t programmed around one audience or one moment.

The city ran it with us.

Our Outcome

Over 23 days, Nike Soccer at The Grove welcomed 85,000 people into an experience that constantly shifted between sport, culture, community and product.

Across the run, 11 TOMA KO 1v1 matches put emerging players on the pitch, 600 Air Force 1s were customized onsite, 12,358 Polaroids went home with guests, 13 local DJs soundtracked the experience, 14 cultural moments brought LA soccer communities into the program, and six different creative themes kept the experience evolving.

But the bigger success was creating a Nike Soccer destination that didn’t depend on a marquee kickoff to feel alive.

The biggest matches brought the crowds. The programming gave them a reason to return.

For three weeks, Nike didn’t simply participate in LA’s World Cup moment. It created a place where the city could play it, watch it, wear it and make it its own.

Show up on the quiet days. Own the loud ones.
