Nike Basketball | WNBA Live
Grassroots to Greatness
Our Opportunity
WNBA All-Star Weekend arrived in Chicago at a defining moment for women's basketball.
The league was celebrating its 30th season. The biggest stars in the game had descended on the city. And at McCormick Place, WNBA Live was becoming a three-day hub for the sport's growing intersection with culture, fashion, music and fandom.
Just down the hall, another generation was arriving.
Nearly 1,000 of the country's most elite high school basketball players were in Chicago competing in Nike's Girls EYBL, surrounded by the athletes they grew up watching and dreaming about becoming.
For Nike, that proximity created an incredible opportunity: bring the entire continuum of women's basketball together in one place.
The girls dreaming about what's possible.
The legends who made it possible.
And the stars changing the game right now.
Our opportunity was to create an experience that celebrated all three while asking the next generation one important question:
How will you change the game?
Our Solution
We transformed an 80' x 50' footprint inside WNBA Live into Grassroots to Greatness, a celebration of the past, present and future of women's basketball.
At the heart of the experience was a visual timeline connecting generations of Nike athletes.
WNBA legends represented the women whose talent and determination helped build the league over its first 30 years. Today's game was represented by three of Nike Basketball's defining stars: A'ja Wilson, Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers. And alongside them was intentionally empty space for the athletes who haven't become household names yet.
The How Will You Change the Game? wall invited young players to add themselves directly beside their heroes, transforming them from spectators into part of the story.
It was a simple gesture with a much bigger message:
You belong on this wall too.
On the other side of the experience, inspiration became self-expression.
Guests could shop Nike Basketball product and customize Air Force 1s through design elements inspired by the personal styles of A'ja, Caitlin and Paige, connecting each athlete's influence on the court to the culture surrounding it.
Exclusive apparel and accessories, including tees and bucket hats, gave fans another way to take a piece of the experience with them, with both ultimately selling out.
Throughout the space, additional photo moments, music from a live DJ and product storytelling kept the energy moving, creating a destination within an already packed WNBA Live floor.
The story extended to the main stage, where Nike women's basketball athletes representing multiple eras came together for a conversation about the evolution of the game and where it goes next.
From grassroots players to legends, every generation had a place in the experience.
Our Outcome
Across All-Star Weekend, Grassroots to Greatness turned Nike's presence at WNBA Live into more than a celebration of today's stars.
It created a living timeline of women's basketball.
The legends honored how far the game has come. A'ja, Caitlin and Paige represented its extraordinary present. And thousands of young players and fans were invited to imagine what comes next.
Product sold out. Fans personalized footwear inspired by their favorite athletes. The main stage brought generations of Nike Basketball together. And young EYBL players who had come to Chicago to compete could walk down the hall and literally place themselves beside the women whose careers they hope to follow.
Thirty years into the WNBA, Nike didn't just celebrate the women who changed the game.
We made space for the ones who will change it next.
